Sheffield Dyslexia Centre

Recent written feedback (Summer 2025)

Cathy’s input has had a profoundly positive impact on A, not only in terms of his reading and writing but it was also a safe space for him to sort through difficult feelings.

I cannot recommend the Sheffield Dyslexia Centre highly enough. It has been central to both of my boys growing in confidence with written work but also has had a profound impact on a deeper sense of their self-esteem.

Since attending SDC L’s confidence and self-esteem has grown. She is less worried at school and better able to vocalise what she needs. The simple adjustments we have put in place help L learn more independently and demonstrate what she knows, and what she can do.

In her end on Year 5 assessments, she has achieved ‘as expected’ results in Maths, Comprehension and SPAG. But more importantly, with the extra support (in and out of school) she did them without worrying or feeling upset afterwards.

Coming to SDC has also been a big support to us. It has helped us to know what support L should have at school and given us the confidence to advocate for this. I have also enjoyed getting to know other families with a child with dyslexia. Chatting to them in the waiting room has been informative and reassuring.

L says it has improved his spelling and helped his confidence in spelling. L seems to respond well to Cathy’s teaching style.

S is growing in confidence with his maths and I feel that he is making significant progress. Karen is fabulous and S really enjoys his lessons. He is keen to complete his homework for Karen which is a novelty! We have many years of experience with SDC and we have always been very pleased with the teaching and support that S has received. Thank you 😊

(Following successful GCSE results) We are forever grateful for the skills you gave J to navigate and succeed within the conventional education system. We'd particularly like to thank Cathy for the hours she spent working with him. To this day I'm not sure what they did during that hour a week at SDC, but it was like waving a wand over J,. He came out with a much more positive and upbeat attitude towards his learning and education.
